Where to find inspiration for your handmade banner
Every bespoke handmade banner begins the same way: with a few words.
And it can feel a lot - choosing something meaningful to live in your home or be part of a wedding day, but meaning doesn’t have to be serious.
It doesn’t have to sum everything up or sound poetic - it just has to feel like yours. It can be light, familiar and playful.
If you’re not sure where to begin, here are a few places to look.
Start with what you already love
The easiest inspiration is the things around you, that you've discovered and already love.
A lyric from the song you play on repeat.
A line from a film you know by heart.
One couple chose a Metallica lyric, "Nothing else matters". Someone else chose a quote by John Muir, "Going to the mountains is going home".
These words already carry a feeling, so you don’t have to create something from scratch. You’re just choosing something that already feels like yours.

Think about your everyday language
Not everything meaningful needs to come from a book, film or song. Some of the most personal wall hangings are made from the words you use every day and they're often overlooked because they're said without thinking! They could be:
- A nickname you always use
- A phrase that makes you laugh
- Something that only makes sense to you
These are the words that feel familiar and become the most special kind of personalised decor - something that doesn’t need explaining to anyone else.
It can be playful too
Your words don’t have to be overly romantic or deeply sentimental to be meaningful.
They can be bold or irreverent, tongue-in-cheek and make you smile.
A couple chose "Welcome to the party, pal" from Die Hard for their home.
Sometimes the best pieces are the ones that feel a little unexpected. The phrases people worry are too playful or too specific, end up being the ones they love the most.
Meaning can be light. It can be playful.

If you’re not sure where to begin
Start small. Try writing down:
- A song you love
- Something you say often
- Favourite films or books
It might be one word, or a few. Both can work beautifully and you don’t need a full sentence or to get it "right" straight away.
Seeing it come to life
Sometimes, it can be hard to imagine how your words will look as a finished piece.
When you reserve your production slot, you'll receive a digital design preview so you can see your words. You'll also receive physical fabric samples so you choose the colour that feels right for your words.
A step between your idea and the finished piece so you can feel sure before moving forward.

A final thought
If you’re searching for inspiration, it’s likely already close to you.
In the music you love, the books and films you enjoy and in the small, ordinary moments.
The words don’t need to be perfect. They just need to be yours.
