Hand cut felt letters and scissors

How is a bespoke handmade banner created?

Every bespoke banner starts with your words and the space you're looking to hang your banner, as both will guide the size.

Choose your wording, colour and size then you'll receive a digital mock up of your design to review. Once your design is signed off, your banner is carefully handmade.

Your banner is handmade, from start to finish

Each letter or number for your banner is carefully traced and cut out by hand from felt. The pieces for your banner are also cut by hand from rich cotton velvet.

Your banner is then sewn together - the hanging loops are folded, stitched and finished with a decorative row of topstitching.

The sides of your banner are pressed in, the facing is sewn to secure the hanging loops, and the sides and facing are topstitched. Hemming then completes your banner's shape.

Your words, perfectly placed

Once your banner has been created, it is gently steamed and laid flat. Your letters are carefully positioned, measured to ensure the design is balanced, and pinned in place.

Your banner is then hung up and lettering all checked, re-measured and adjusted - as the way the fabric hangs can affect the lettering alignment. This stage is key to make sure your letters are perfectly placed and beautifully straight.

Securely stitched, for a finish that lasts

Once your lettering is perfect, each letter is securely stitched in place. The threads are threaded through to the back of the banner, where they are knotted by hand and trimmed. This secures your lettering and prevents any threads lifting over time and becoming visible on the front of your banner.

Finally your banner is steamed, and finished with a hand stitched label on the reverse, so it doesn't distract from your words. It's then carefully packed and ready to be shipped.
