Bespoke Banner with Quote: “Going to the Mountains is Going Home”

A green handmade velvet banner which reads "GOING TO THE MOUNTAINS IS GOING HOME"

This green velvet banner was made for a keen hillwalker and naturalist, who chose a key phrase taken from a longer quote by John Muir:

"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life."

John Muir (1838-1914) was born in Scotland and founder of the conservation movement. He had a passion for protecting wild places, both, for their own sake and for the wellbeing of people and wildlife.

Choosing a John Muir quote for a bespoke banner

A bespoke handmade banner holds the words that matter, and when you're deciding on wording for your home, those words are something you'll see every day. What means most to you will be unique - it might be something that inspires you, brings back memories or makes you laugh.

Speaking of selecting "Going to the mountains is going home" for this bespoke banner:

"There is something about the sense of familiarity, a “home” is where you feel comfortable, share time with family and friends and is a constant through life. Having being going to the mountains for 50 years they are a never changing presence, instantly evoking memories of a lifetime of wonderful visits and shared times. John Muir is one of the people I admire most, whose writings have hugely influenced my outlook on the world."
