How to hang a handmade banner?

How to hang a banner on a wall at home

The hanging loops on your banner are designed to be hung from a pole. A solid brass pole completes the traditional heritage feel, or opt for a wooden pole to match existing decor.

Hang a banner pole on picture hooks

A 6mm brass pole is narrow enough to rest on standard picture hooks. The number of picture hooks needed depends on the banner size, as a guide:

  • Mini or small banners: 2 picture hooks
  • Medium banners: 3 picture hooks (additional picture hook in the middle)
  • Large banners: 4-5 pictures hooks (along the width of the banner)

For a more decorative finish, gallery rail brackets can be screwed into the wall, securing the ends of the banner pole and add extra detail. Your banner then sits slightly further forward from the wall.

Displaying a banner for a wedding ceremony

When you're displaying a banner without a wall - a freestanding frame allows you to move your banner, create height and can be easily assembled and dismantled. For hanging a wedding banner - the space underneath the banner can be dressed with flowers or decor.

A minimalist clothes rail is a great option for displaying your banner. The top of the frame can be directly threaded through the banner loops, or if the frame is styled with a curtain or backdrop, the banner pole can be suspended - either from fishing wire or picture rail hooks which add a decorative touch of brass.
