The exhibition included "Can't Hide My Feelings From Me Now" in the window above the dollhouse which enabled it to create and capture reflections and shadows.

"Can’t Hide My Feelings From Me Now" reflects the vulnerable place at which we have to confront feelings we have been pushing down and their signal to make a change. A fragile support for an overwhelmingly clear message that, like the shadow it casts, is inescapable and when ignored will only declare itself louder.

For me, these were the signals of a need to pause, following a year of significant and difficult life change and then recognising the strong pull back to creating, both feelings which I couldn’t hide but offer glimmers of hope and possibility for what lies ahead.

Creating this piece encapsulated the feeling of fighting against yourself, with the organza which refused to fall neatly in straight lines and feeling vulnerable and exposed with every seam, stitch and mis-step in full view.

Written words are a central part of my work and this piece was inspired by a Belle and Sebastian lyric (“I can't hide my feelings from you now”) and a quote from Joni Mitchell, speaking of her Blue album, “At that period in my life, I had no personal defenses. I felt like a cellophane wrapper on a pack of cigarettes.”
