About the artwork: Silk Support

Inspired by the work of Dr Alex Woods and Newrotex - a medical start up trialling the use of spider silk to help repair nerve damage.

A damaged nerve will create its own basic structure and regenerates at around 1mm per day, but this only lasts for around 10 days, meaning they can’t bridge larger gaps on their own. Spider silk provides both a physical structure and time for the nerves to regenerate, as it lasts up 150 days, after which the silk naturally breaks down.

Silk support sees this from the spider’s point of view. Providing something seemingly delicate to build strength. An act of love.
