About the artwork: I Have Never Been Anything Else

Rose Lamartine Yates spoke these words of recognising herself as a suffragette, and they feel as fitting today for expressing feminist identity. A fundamental truth and core value carried so long, that you have never known anything different.

Drawing on the banners and rosette ribbons of the suffragette movement, this piece celebrates feminist identity.

"I Have Been Anything Else" was displayed in Wimbledon Museum amongst the museum displays, and a smaller companion piece - "Never Anything Else" was created for the gallery space.
